What Is Hypnosis?

 

Most people don't realize it, but hypnosis has been around for thousands of years - ever since the beginning of mankind whenever that was - scientists don't seem to  agree on that. Hypnosis has been a part of nearly every culture throughout modern and ancient times.  Most commonly the experience people have with hypnosis is watching an  entertainer. Actually your experience with hypnosis is on a daily, hourly, and  minute to minute basis. If you've ever daydreamed or been engrossed in a book, a  movie, television, meditation or dancing, you been in a state of sel-imposed hypnotic trance. These trances  are very similar to the ones that you experience as a hypnotherapist guides you to sit down, and relax.

 

What most people don't realize is that hypnosis is the precursor to modern-day  psychology. Freud started out as a hypnotist before discovering the wonderful  benefits of psychology. One of the chief differences between the two is that psychologysts use the conscious mind to make changes at the subconscious level. Whereas hypnotherapists work directly with the  subconscious.

 

Your subconscious mind is where your automatic behaviors are stored. When you're  in a mild trance or even a deep one, your hypnotherapist can give you suggestions that are more readily accepted by your belief system, because the your critical factor is  greatly reduced. We use our belief system to determine what is true or not true about our  reality – your critical factor. Hence our actions both conscious and  unconscious are based on us coding our own belief system.

 

As you journey towards well-being, you want to achieve optimal results. At different transformation  points during your journey it is advisable to consider using alternative as well as conventional  methods to achieve your goals. There are times in your journey when hypnosis is far more effective than psychology or psychiatry and vice versa. In turn during your journey with psychology or psychiatry, hypnosis and NLP can be excellent complements to the therapy you are receiving or have  received.

 

Believe it or not it is you who determines what your belief system is, not your friends,  not your parents, not your peers at work. Not even your boyfriend or girlfriend or wife.  It is you who decides what is most right true for your versus what is not. Our belief coding  takes place as early as the moment of conception. Yes you are coding beliefs as you're in  the womb. Just as you did as a toddler before you could talk. You determined your beliefs back then just as you do now. No your parents did not code your belief structure , because you are the one who made the decision as to whether or not to accepted their ready-made belief systems; believe it or not.

 

Fortunately as we grow; gain experience; get older, and learn, learn, learn and learn our belief systems change daily. The problems people run into are when beliefs that were learned as a young child, i.e. three years old, two years old or eight years old are maintained into adulthood. Many adults still make decisions based on what they learned as 2 year olds or maybe from an experience learned during gestation. Fortunately those beliefs can be grealy improved allowing for much better decisions.

 

The goal of hypnosis and NLP is to help guide you into changing your beliefs by working directly with your subconscious mind. The result is the changes that you  make occur relatively quickly (usually within a few sessions) and easily. The changes that you make (while rapid) feel completely natural as your thinking changes. You accept new changes and make better decisions as far and as fast you want to go. Thus the change process is very comfortable.

What is NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming)?

 

No system is perfect. NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) was created in the early 1970s by Dr. John Grinder and Richard Bandler (student). Originally it was used to model the outstanding attributes and  qualities of other people, so that their stellar decision-making abilities could be taught to other people. By the mid-1970s the two co-founders realized that NLP could be used therapeutically. After much research, testing and examination they respectfully realized the shortcomings of hypnosis and  psychology. As a result, they expanded and re-engineered NLP to make up for many of those deficiencies. Thus NLP is based on hypnosis, psychology and linguistics (Ahhh, the power of words to affect human behavior!).

 

NLP is a collection of processes based on modeling that can be used to foster rapid change in  individuals. Therapeutically speaking NLP has been successful at quickly and thoroughly rooting out many types of problematic behaviors, thought processes and negative emotions commonly approached by psychology. Just as with hypnosis, NLP works directly with your subconscious mind while you're in a very light trance.

 

To this day, Messrs. Grinder and Bandler continue to evolve NLP separately, as they are no longer a team. They continue to teach and train others. I was trained and certified by Dr. Grinder and am an avid  follower of Dr. Bandler.

 

Dr. Grinder's newest contribution since the 1990s is called New Code NLP. It's a very significant improvement over the original NLP which tended to be behaviorally based. While you're in a "hi-performance state" New Code NLP may use spatial anchoring to affect change. It also draws on obtaining information directly from your subconscious mind, because information so obtained is far more reliable and complete than that obtained from your conscious mind. The Hi-Performance state is also known as being in the zone, the flow state (Mihaly Csikszsentmihaly and more recently, Stephen Kotler) and being in the moment. In this state we are extremely open-minded to the point where we can instantaneously come up with optimal approaches and solutionsbe when exposed to challenging or unwanted situations.

 

Tony Robbins (Robbins Research International) has also done much to expand public awareness of NLP.  In all of his brilliance and open-mindedness he has done what NLP's cofounders did through his own research and development and now offers a hybridized form of NLP which has been very helpful to  hundreds of thousands of people.

 

Subconscious communication is extensively done during the first session so that your NLP practitioner has a far more accurate starting point, whereas trying to obtain that information from the conscious mind could take weeks months or years.

What is Timeline Resolution?

 

Timelines were invented by the ancient Greeks. Our conscious and subconscious minds organize events on a line. The increments of this line can be based on time or some other factor such as emotional intensity. When in a mild trance where you are  fully aware and fully interactive a person can explore your timeline such that you use it to gain the learnings that still need to be gained from earlier experiences. The result  is that you can clear away major negativity within a very short period of time, sometimes in as little as 15 minutes – anger, feeling depressed, fears, phobias,  shame, pain, stress, anxiety, frustration, etc.

 

Timeline is a form of Regression Hypnosis which was first used therapeutically back in the late 1800s. Timelines were again used during the 1940s. Again in the 1980s by Richard Bandler's former wife, Leslie Cameron Bandler. Dr. Tad  James and Wyatt Woodsmall researched and wrote wrote about timelines in their  famous book Time Line Therapy and the Basis of Personality. The most recent work on timelines is Time Lining by Dr. Bob Bodenhamer and Dr. L. Michael Hall.

 

Timeline Resolution, created by Tim Marshall, is based on the work of earlier authors and researchers. He uses it very effectively to increase and speed his clients' results during their coaching and counseling sessions. As well, Timeline Resolution is a major component of his Hypnosis and NLP certification trainings.
